3rd to 9th May 2004

Another busy week - although all the big changes happened on Saturday.

Started off by tying in the steel to the block walls by laying blocks right up to the steel.  We then finished off a couple of piers and looked at the floor beams laid in the last week - a couple of minor changes in approach from those on the plan sorted out the issues we had discovered.

Then we filled the floor we had with blocks.

The problems with the steel were rapidly resolved - much to the credit of the supplier - Remnant Engineering in Lydney.  They sent the missing beam up along with a couple of chaps to burn out the holes in one beam to the correct size.

This then left a day to get BCO and NHBC inspections sorted and then on Saturday morning the rest of the beams went up.  Again the plan did match reality but 10 minutes of butt scratching came up with a workable solution.  We also managed to avoid having to cut more than 2 beams - and given the fun we had cutting them (they are 225mm deep) it's a good job we didn't need to cut about 10 or 11 of them.

Fun of the week - starter motor on the forklift playing up so you never know if it will go or not when you need it!
