Focus was on the internals of the loft and preparing the large window frames at one end of the house. The loft was a continuation of last week - making it airtight with vapour barrier and then closing off
with insulated plasterboard. Obviously this also meant putting some of the flooring down to make a little bit safer but just a lot of slow, steady work. The other item was working with 200x125mm oak
beams, making an H structure around the large openings in the stonework into which large windows will be fitted. This was fun.... With so many fixed points such as window sizes, floor levels and so
many variables (opening size, wood sizes) deciding where to start was fun. This was followed by a good 3/4 day on the angle grinder chopping down the stone work to make things fit. Once this was
completed getting the exact opeing sizes needed wasn't too bad it was just very heavy lifting the beams in and out of position for fine tuning. It was all done by Friday and we were drilling holes for
stainless studding to be stuck into using special adhesive - this being the way of holding it all in place. We also started getting people around for electrics, sprinklers, alarms and so on. |
