12th to 18th April 2004

After having a 4 day break for Easter - something my back needed it was back to site.

Once back this week was very similar to last - more blocks going on to the walls outside the garage, concrete going into the cavities, padstones being completed (Hurrah!!), filling in blocks around some of the padstones already dried.  Doesn't sound very mch and I suppose we were only on site for 3 days this week but these things take time if you take the cheaper approach of not having loads of people on site each day.

This approach also gives time to identify and correct slight errors - this week's list include mis-measuring the length of the beams needed for the bridge to the front door (the pier supporting them has to be central to the pier between the garage doors to look sensible BUT this is not central to the span!), some of the walls not having weep holes where they should and one section missing some DPM where a cavity will be filled with insulation.  All fixable assuming you catch them early.

Other work - chasing steel - should be there next week(ho hum), concrete beams - should be there the week after and also thinking about what on earth is the easiest and cheapest way to fill the rest of the free standing retaining wall behind the house with concrete!
